What does © mean?
The ©, is the mechanical symbol for a "copyright" notification.
There are many types of copyrights, used for many types of visual, text
and creative works.
A copyright that works for a song is different than one used for a sculpture.
For instance a song
copyright and a screenplay are the same form, but a G.I. Joe requires a
completely different
copyright.
What is the difference between © & ®?
The ©, being a copyright and the ® being a fully registered TRADEMARK. This symbol is illegal to
use if it is NOT registered with the Patent & Trademark office! For
trademarks that are
going to be registered, but have not acquired a notification letter : you
must use the "TM" mark.
Trademark's are much more involved, one might consider a competent lawyer, versed in
intellectual properties when considering a trademark!
Trademark's and Service Mark's (SM) are used for brand recognition and tag lines.
People protect their trademark to almost ridiculous measures, Ralph L. from Polo®,
sued the US Polo Association for trademark violation! How stupid is that
one.....?
